Toltecs’s Tiffany-style pool table lights can be a great addition to any pool room. I took a fancy to their Popular Pearl line of lighting, so this review is focused on those.

Let me tell you, these Toltecs are some very finely crafted billiard lights. The stained glass is elegantand not too gaudy, giving just enough accent to your table and your pool room to really give you that warm fuzzy feeling-’.

My personal favorites are the # 129 Popular Pearl Tiffany Light with Pearl and Green with Brass Channels and the # 527E Popular Pearl Tiffany Light with Clear Ripple and ClearGlass with Brass Channels The designs feature some exquisite glass finishes, and can bring some major charm and beauty to your pool table rooms.

The Pearl and Green runs about $ 475 with just 3 lights, but if you’re like me, and want to light up to 9 ‘ pool table instead of those tiny little 7 ‘ or 8 ‘ tables, I’m guessing you’ll need a longer fixture with an extra light bulb, bumping the cost up to 5. I’m not positive yet if the extra bulb-upgrade actually gives you a longer pool tablelight, but I’ve sent their customer service queries, and I’ll update this post as soon as they’ve responded (UPDATE: yes, the extra bulb extends the coverage area of the fixture). Now, I like this particular choice of pearl-and-green because the two-toned color scheme matches and compliments my favorite pool felt color: deep green (I know their other color choices, of course, would thus be ideal for tables covered in alternating, yet matching, colors).

The ClearGlass pool table lighting comes with only one choice: the 10 candelabra lights, and two lights pointing down. Asking price is $, which is a bit hefty, but probably worth the stretch considering budget-how it is eye-catching. Brass and clear-glass candelabra lighting direct within your game rooms really adds an old world touch.Imagine matching this with a warm dark wood theme, one reminiscent of gas-lights and cobblestone streets. Add some 8 ball or 9 ball themed black-&-white framed posters to enhance the atmosphere, or even some old-school mafia B&W’s full of tommy-guns and antique cars, and you’ve got yourself one jiving game room! My only worry with this light is that the candelabra lights might be too bright and distracting. I Kind of wish they had included an option for smoked-glass tinting to take away a bit of the glare.

Most of these Toltecs Tiffany Billiard Lights are available in 2, 3 or 4 light configurations, even single-bulb pendants with attaching chains or light stands. All Billiard lights come with enough chain, wiring and ceiling canopy for a nine-foot high ceiling. Extra chain and wireare available upon request at the time you place an order.

overall, I’d give them 4 out 5 stars. These are some top-notch lights, but I’ll save the 5th star for something that really blows me away.

When looking at a Tiffany lamp or stained glass window panel, one of the first things you will notice is that almost all include magnificent displays of Natures beautiful expressions of life. Whether it is a wall sconce, table lamp or lamp, hanging in an apparent passion for natural world sparkles throughout these wonderful works of art …

As is well known Tiffany lamps were brought to life by a young artist named Louis Comfort Tiffany in his New York Studios. The son of Charles Tiffany, founder of Tiffany & Co. Jewelers, his intricate and colorful Tiffany lamps were manufactured from the 1880 ‘s through 1924, however, the process that he developed to create these beautiful pieces still continues today.

At the age of 18 Louis Comfort Tiffany began to study with anAmerican landscape artist named George Inness in 1866 learning color, composition and technique. Originally a painter, perhaps his knack for including nature scenes in his works with Tiffany lamps was fostered here in this venue of study. On the other hand, we know that much of the artistic influence of Tiffany was developed throughout the traveling he did while in his twenties. Because he came from a wealthy family, he was able to visit the Middle East, North Africa and more often Europe between the years 1865-1872 gathering the inspirations, that went into his design of glass work. Japanese ceramics, Islamic architecture, as well as, Romanesque and Moorish art proved to be an important part of his artistic evolvement.

2.) to Tiffany Studio Classic, the fish scales pattern, is variegated glass of honeydripped colors in emerald, sapphire and garnet. The colored stained glass exhibits a similar brilliance to wet fish scales shimmering in the sunlight. This pattern is used in many styles of Tiffany products including hanging Tiffany lamps.

These early creations by Louis Comfort Tiffany would live on to become the desire of collectors, as well as, beautiful illuminations in many homes around the world.

Handel Lamp History

Philip Julius Handel first established the Handel Company in Meriden, Connecticut in 1876. They specialized in high quality reverse painted lamp shades and were generally considered a less expensive alternative to the Tiffany lamp popularized by Louis Comfort Tiffany. They also made leaded glass shades similar to Tiffany as well as vases, humidor boxes and other decorative objects. The most popular lamps of the Art Nouveau 1890-1920 and the Art Deco period 1920-1939 were Tiffany, Handel, Pairpoint and Duffner & Kimberly.

Philip Handel (age 19) and Adolph Eydam (age 21) formed a partnership in 1885 and created the “Eydam and Handel Company” in Meriden, Connecticut specializing in glass decorating and lamp manufacturing. They used lamp bases from other suppliers nottheir own lamp bases. In 1892 the partnership ended and the company later moved to larger facilities in New York city in 1893 and was known as “Philip j. Handel” and later as “Handel and Company”. In 1902 they opened their own foundry and began producing their own lamp bases. The Handel Company was incorporated on June 11, 1903 and Philip j. Handel, Albert Parlow, and Antone Teich were the principals. In 1906, Philip j. Handel married Fannie Hirschfield Handel, his second wife. She became the company’s president upon Philip Handel’s death in 1914. She remarried In 1918 and in 1919 William f. Handel, Philip’s cousin took control of the company.

Following World War I was a period of tremendous growth. The economy was roaring and the company had assembled a very impressive and talentedgroup of artists and craftsmen. However, the Great Depression drastically changed the company’s fortunes and by 1929 the company was struggling. The company ceased production completely in 1936. The Handel Lamp Company was the very finest maker of reverse-painted lamps. Handel also leaded glass lamps made some. The company is a prime example of fine quality American craftsmanship.

Handel bases were most commonly made of a zinc alloy, with a bronze spelter patina or finish. Some were made of genuine bronze. The marking was commonly the company name on the bottom of the base. The markings consisted of raised letters and/or a label. Sometimes the marking would be underneath the base or sometimes on top of the base. Lamp shades were marked on metal components and/or on the glassitself. Some of the glass pieces are signed by the artists.

Many of the medium to larger Handel lamp bases were wired with multiple sockets which were operated by pull chains that had small and various shaped pull balls on the ends of the chain.

It has long been common practice to match slag glass lamp shades, Tiffany type shades and others to various lamp bases that were not the original. Another common practice has been to place an unsigned shade on a signed Handel lamp base and pass the entire lamp off as “Handel”. Many if not most lamps and shades are referred to as Handel lamps simply because the style is similar to that of an original Handel lamp. Experts today suggest that about 90% of all lamps called Handel were not actually made by Handel. There are many lampsthat are signed but that are not authentic. Identification of Handel leaded lamps is a subjective process that few people are qualified to do.

Given the company’s history it may be difficult to prove the negative: i.e. that a particular lamp is NOT a Handel. But as usual, money speaks and you will find that a Handel lamp and shade with correct markings, attributes and documentation commands a very premium price as compared to any lamp that is “attributed to Handel”.

For instance, some of Handel’s small and simple desk and simple floor lamps have recently sold for around $ 500. Generally the more complex ones sell for over $ 2,000. There are some rare ones that have sold for over $ 80,000.
